WORKING TOGETHER, WORKING FOR YOU

“Insurance companies know that if our firm is involved, they can expect aggressive representation and risk an excess verdict if they go to trial,” says Kevin I. Goldberg, a partner in the firm. In addition to Goldberg, firm lawyers Kevin Finnegan, Christian Mester, Thomas Farrington, Jean Jones (R.N., J.D.), Justin Katz and Mark Schofield concentrate on personal injury cases that include medical malpractice, birth trauma/cerebral palsy injuries, automobile accidents, products liability, crime victim compensation, nursing home abuse and workers’ compensation cases.

EXPERIENCED ATTORNEYS—INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY

Goldberg serves on the executive board of the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, of which he will serve as president starting in May 2009. Finnegan is involved in the American Association for Justice, for which he served as a governor for new lawyers in Maryland. Mester was recently appointed by the governor of Maryland to serve on the Task Force on Discipline of Health Care Providers and Improved Patient Care. The firm represented victims of the Sept. 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks before the Victim Compensation Fund on a pro bono basis. Farrington annually provides legal updates on changes in Maryland law to other practicing attorneys. Jones, a registered nurse attorney, once defended health-care providers in lawsuits and now uses that experience to aid the injured victims of medical negligence.

DEDICATING RESOURCES TO YOUR CASE

“We have a large practice and we spend the necessary resources to prepare every case expecting it to go to trial,” Mester says. As a result, Goldberg continues, “We have been known to receive verdicts in excess of the insurance policy limits.” For instance, in June 2006, a jury awarded the largest verdict at that time in Calvert County history—$1.37 million (well in excess of policy limits)—for a client injured in an automobile accident. In addition to its courtroom victories, the firm regularly obtains extraordinary settlements on behalf of its clients. “The courtroom is not always the appropriate battlefield. Many cases are better suited to mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution,” says Finnegan.

Persistence AND RESULTS

Goldberg, Finnegan & Mester’s dedication to its clients and its willingness to take tough cases to trial has earned it a stellar reputation among its peers. “Other firms trust us with their medical malpractice and personal injury cases,” Goldberg says. “They know that our lawyers are aggressive and that we will do whatever is legally and ethically necessary to obtain the very best results.”

Testimonials

“The standard profile has allowed my partners and me to expand our presence to the readers of Super Lawyers and The New York Times Magazine as well as strengthen relationships with current clients and friends.”

"My Platinum profile ad has definitely paid off! My law firm is a boutique five-attorney law firm in San Francisco that had never advertised prior to this, except in Martindale-Hubbel. We have been a traditional insurance defense firm, and wanted to subtly let people know that we also do select plaintiff's cases. In the last quarter of 2006, we were retained in three significant plaintiff's cases, two of which are high-profile media cases. I also placed an ad in the Super Lawyers section of San Francisco magazine, to reach non- lawyers. Now, people at the gym, the coffee shop, the drycleaners tell me they had no idea what I do, and they will come to me when they need a lawyer. So, the ad also worked to reach non-lawyers in the community as well."
