Unlike most women lawyers, Margaret Ann Mead and Catherine Flynn were drawn to criminal law. Their talent and determination makes them among the best in the field, earning the respect of peers and the gratitude of clients. They met while defending a death penalty case. Realizing they shared similar law philosophies, they opened their firm in 1999. Their practice is devoted solely to criminal defense matters including assault, homicide, drug charges, robbery, sexual assault, drunk-driving and white-collar crimes. Rodney J. Gray—recently named partner—and a dedicated staff completes the firm.

GIVING THE CLIENT EVERY CHANCE

The firm centers on individual attention and respect. Its lawyers know the law inside and out. “Every case is different, because you are dealing with different people in different circumstances,” Mead says. The lawyers learn about every client’s history and family, and the unique factors that affect each case. “We strive to provide our clients the best representation to give them every chance,” Mead says. This includes empowering clients to make independent choices by explaining the legal process, the evidence and the offense requirements that the state must prove.

Again this year, Mead and Flynn have been named to Super Lawyers®. Gray has been named to Rising Stars. His general criminal practice includes a focus on juvenile defense.

PASSIONATE, HANDS-ON PEOPLE

“We care about the judicial system and our community,” Flynn says. The firm sponsors two girls basketball teams. It also works with the state Bar to mentor high school students. Gray works with Take Back the City, a mentoring program for at-risk youth, and referees youth sports.
